About Our Exterior Painting Procedures:

Probably the single most important aspect of exterior painting , is the quality and thoroughness of preparation; readying the house surface prior to painting. This directly affects the quality and durability of resulting exterior paint finish. A poor quality exterior painting job can require attention again in as little as 3 years; a quality job done correctly can last up to 20 years.

Our Exterior Painting Procedures:

On average, depending on the size and condition of your home, Lewis Custom Painting will spend at LEAST one full day, and most likely more, on the most vital process of your exterior painting project- preparing the surface for paint. Complete and thorough preparation of the surfaces to be painted is essential to a long lasting finish coat. Since we guarantee our labor and materials in writing, of course we want to make sure every step is taken for your paint job to last the entire duration, and hopefully much longer!

Pressure Wash Entire Exterior:
This step is a very important one. If all dirt & grime is not removed prior to painting, the paint will not adhere correctly.

Sand & Scrape:
Areas with loose paint, need to be scraped and the edges of remaining paint that is still in contact with the surface require being sanded tight.

Priming:
Lewis Custom Paintings’ extensive priming process ensures longevity of your finish coat. We apply SLOW dry OIL primer on all wax bleed through areas, and areas that were sanded and scraped.

Caulking:
Lewis Custom Painting uses SherMax Urethanized Elastomeric caulk. It has excellent flexibility & adhesion. With a +/-35% joint stretch, it has excellent durability, and a lifetime warranty! We caulk all gaps that require caulk to seal and protect.

Masking:
Some painting companies will only lower the pressure on their paint sprayers and use a shield to try to prevent over spray from getting on your windows & screens. Or they may just use masking paper along the edges of your windows.

Application of Paint:
Our application process consists of spraying a thick, even coat on the body of your home, and applying a thick coat of paint by the brush and roll method on all trim and accent areas.

3 Paint Grade Options

We offer every customer the option of choosing from 3 grades of paint. The nice thing with choosing Lewis Custom Painting as your paint contractor, is that we NEVER apply an up charge to our materials. Our contractor pricing (which is often 30% or higher less than store customer pricing) is passed DIRECTLY to our customers. We do not in any way, make any money off of the materials we use on your home. Chad Lewis, owner of Lewis Custom Painting, has been in the painting business for 17 years, and he has paint estimation down to a perfection!

Low -Grade Paint option #1 (Only given upon request during estimate):

For our cost conscious customers, our first grade of paint is an exterior acrylic latex based paint. It offers fresh curb appeal at a competitive price point. It is recommended for new homes, multifamily residences, and commercial buildings. In Colorado, our UV is severe, and for durability, low grade paints are not recommended. We do however trust our preparation process and thus we offer a no cost 2 year labor and materials warranty when choosing this option.

Mid -Grade Paint option #2:

This paint grade is one we recommend to most of our customers. With it’s advanced acrylic resin formula, you’ll enjoy superior adhesion and color retention that lasts, and it provides excellent protection to mildew, fading, and peeling. We offer a no cost 5 year labor and materials warranty when choosing this option.

Extremely-High Grade Paint option #3:

We recommend this option to any of our customers who are planning on living in their home for 10 years or longer, and do not wish to repaint every 3-5 years due to using lower grades of paint. We have used this paint on exteriors that were completed over 10 years ago, and they still look great today! Because of it’s PermaLast technology, this coating goes on 70% thicker than ordinary exterior house paint with just one coat, plus it is 50% more durable than other premium exterior paints and is guaranteed against peeling and blistering for as long as you own your home. The initial cost of this paint upgrade will indeed save you thousands of dollars of having your home repainted! We offer a no cost 10 year labor and materials warranty when choosing this option.
